Snow White And The Huntsman - New Character Posters

We love these new character posters for Rupert Saunders much anticipated Snow White adaptation, Snow White And The Huntsman

Keeping with the dark theme of the film (loosely based on Grimm’s version of the fairytale) the posters feature The Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth), Snow White (Kristen Bell), and Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron).

Check them out below!

We particularly love the last one!

Don’t forget, there’s still a week left to enter the purehmv competition for your chance to attend the world premiere of the film in London.

hmv @SXSW 2012

Day one, left foot is soaked in beer and the first band isn’t even on.  South By Southwest in Austin, Texas - hitting it’s stride in this it’s 25th year and after an initial walk down 6th Street, I’m starting to understand how the Texan capital can lay claim to being the music capital of the World.  Every bar and venue is packed from the basement up, windows cast wide open and a huge array of bands and performers are blazing out songs to their respective crowds.

To the business in hand- we’re here to find you hot tips, new talent and maybe drop in on a few old favourites along the way.  Latitude bar has been well and truly taken over as ‘The British Music Embassy’ hosting a week-long cavalcade of Brit based bands and artists.  Opening night is hosted by our lovely chums at Xtra Mile Recordings and I’m sure glad I remembered some ear plugs.  The sound system from Cato Music is superb, but even with the windows open onto the street, it’s proper LOUD.

Jim Lockey’s first man on, no pensive starts without his band The Solemn Sun mind as he quickly rips into a Frank Turner style tour de force, with the man himself (performing later on before FiN) cheering on from the front. Triumphantly declaring that he intends to partake in sampling the lion’s share of the bar’s inventory, Jim pretty much sets the tone for the night.

hmv Next Big Thing hot tips, The Xcerts, absolutely - and when I say absolutely, they ABSOLUTELY - shred the guitars and kit, the subdued lanyard brigade who were much maligned at Jay Z’s corporate gig earlier in the week are nowhere to be seen here and the night’s all the better for it.  Next up Future Of The Left and they’re on a mission to out sound everyone else- albeit with more of a thrashy, bass, heavy vibe and fronted by a somewhat Henry Rollins looking lead.  They have the venue rapt and judging by the feedback on the social networks, they’re leading the SXSW ‘One to watch’ buzz by a country mile as day one comes to a close.

From Britain to France, as day 2 kicks in, the French Bureau Export are turning their volume up to 11 today, showcasing the best from across the Channel all day and night across the city.  During the day, Gush, pull out a hot set for the corporate crowd in Brush Park.  West Coast flavours (flavors?) married with big Soul harmonies and some good old fashioned rock ‘n roll histrionics to get the cogs greased for another massive day of bands, beer and foods featuring lots of melted cheese.

Anoraak carry on the French Touch vibe with a little more sunshine and a lot more synth.  All I really need now is an open top chevvy and a tank full of gas.  This being Austin though, I’m more likely to hire a hipster bike and pedal down to Congress Bridge to watch the bats as the sun dips in the sky.  Still, with Anoraak playing, the soundtrack couldn’t be more suitable any other way.

Housse De Racket absolutely smash it later on over at the brilliant Mohawk venue (think Pacha, Ibiza- only with more Taco’s and beverages that don’t require putting your house up as equity).  They’re followed by College, fresh from new found fame via the ‘Drive’ soundtrack.  If I’m honest, the pulsing 80’s electronics don’t quite work following De Racket’s frenetic finish but it does sound great in the evening heat, looking up at the stars…

Day 3 and we’re into secret party/ invite only territory and while there are multiple missions and hoop jumpings required to attend, the effort pays off.  Task one involves biting off more walking than anticipated, padding through Austin’s vast suburbs (under a Texan sun) to the backyard of someone’s home.  A little flustered and a little more sweaty – a shady spot and a Red Stripe sort things out as we’re treated to a string of live performances as part of a Boiler Room showcase, broadcast live online for those who couldn’t manage the 5000 mile trip (or the journey from town).

A foodie re-charge at the celebrated Sam’s BBQ (“You don’t need no teeth to eat my beef!”) and tonight’s scorching hot ticket is an intimate gig with SXSW’s key note speaker – Bruce Springsteen.  The Low Anthem provide a stunning start to the night, followed by Alejandro Escovedo, before The Boss himself takes to The Moody Theatre stage to show all the new SXSW hopefuls just how to deliver a show.  Granted, I’m not his biggest fan but Bruce and the E Street Band certainly know how to work a crowd like a clockwork toy.   Guest spots from Tom Morello, Jimmy Cliff and Arcade Fire seeming almost gratuitous, but magically received all the same.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Friday means breakfast with Tribes followed by a Bloody Mary Brunch with Spectrals, Dutch Uncles and D/R/U/G/S. Four fantastic bands to get the wheels in motion before heading across town to see Grimes do her thing on the top of a multi story car park. A couple of sound issues and a sore throat don’t spoil the experience though and we head off all the more excited to get our hands on her forthcoming new album.

Twilight Sad fly the flag as part of the afternoon’s Scottish showcase and then we’re off west to the brilliant Waterloo Records store. Apart from a fantastic range stuff in there, it’s heartening to see so many UK artists featuring so prominently on display. Adele leads the charge for the new school while, er, The Cult head up the old school contingent - well, they are just about to play a free gig in the store parking lot…

Dinner today should be noted for it’s somewhat unconventional approach to service. No washing up at The Boiling Pot y’all - here you order your food, get bibbed up and tuck into the mountain that’s poured into the centre of your table. Doesn’t take a genius to advise that it’s probably not the best restaurant to head to on a first date.

Madeon turns up the volume over at Mohawk, getting the capacity crowd pumped for an impending guest spot from Skrillex. Dance music is calling the shots in a big way in the US now and it’s hard not to argue with that when you see the massed crowds outside, hoping to get in. Tonight though, Skrillex pressing play and jumping about for the Bros and Dudes will have to wait, so many bands, so little time.

Saturday is St. Patrick’s Day and along with the extra greenery on show, Austin takes on a somewhat more crazed, psychedelic colour. With the weekend, visitor numbers swell further and SXSW ramps itself up into full on spring break party mode for it’s final hurrah.  Staff everywhere have got that strung out and forlorn ‘is this still happening?’ look in their eyes. It’s the home stretch and pretty much odds on that things are gonna get messy in order to get everyone through to Sunday

A subdued and almost studious start to the day in the main conference centre for hmv though, attending more panels featuring the great, the good and the downright weird of the internet and music industry respectively. It’s not long before we’re saddling up and hitting the trail to bandsville, via some legendary Taco’s at Guero’s.

Clock Opera pull out the stops during the final gig of their SXSW campaign as do Django Django.  Later, we wrap things up with two on-point label showcases from Warp and Young Turks – though, as has been the case every night, the SXSW line-up’s have provided something of an embarrassment of riches on a daily basis and we could have hit up another 10 to 20 jaw dropping parties.

And with that, it’s bags packed and off into the sky once more, safe in the knowledge that for the hundreds of great acts we saw, another couple of hundred slipped through the net.  There’s no losing sleep over this sort of thing of course, as one of this year’s unofficial T-Shirts states “Keep your head up, your schedule loose and take in the awesomeness that is SXSW”, that’ll certainly be our mantra for next year too.
