#hmvnbt Night 2 @Relentless Garage
Just a quick one today guys, so much to do and so little time! (and I’ll admit, I just lost 45 minutes worth of writing and reviewing!)
So last night saw Proxies and hadouken! own the downstairs stage and the beautiful Ava Leigh and Bluey Robinson take the upstairs (obviously as with my arty and indie vibes from the previous evening clashing with full on 1980s Bill and ted style fleetings downstairs- I was a little culture confused inside. But last night wasn’t as surreal. Every artist was down to earth, charming and very witty.
Catching Hadouken!’s sound check, chatting with the lovely Proxies, chasing Hadouken! for sound check, finding out Bluey Robinson and Ava Leigh had escaped the building and wielding a very confusing dictaphone- I feared the night may not go as I’d hoped. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel and for me that was @poppyrose.
Systematically tracking down bands and artists can feel like looking for a needle in a hay stack, they move quickly, adapt into disguises and are genuinely crazy people who run riot but with meticulous planning, the popping in and removal of ear plugs, we got so much great content.
Catching all sets from last night, I couldn’t have been more pleased or proud to be involved. Each act was so lovely, focussed and in very different ways systematic about how they were going to make 2012 work for them.
From last night I can only say that all artist’s featured are definitely going to be hot in 2012- without a doubt.
Here’s some reasons you may be interested/ want to get interested:
Hadouken!- These guys are smashing Japan right now, they’ve tightened up their sound, the third album is set to hit the top 10 and @Jameshadouken’s twitter ramblings are worth following alone.
Ava Leigh- This lady is incredible, talented, very funny and a twitter phobe. her album is finally complete and set for release, if you love reggae, jazz, hot blondes and The Artist- check this lady out- she’s wonderfully enigmatic and loves Persian blues.
Proxies- These boys are too lovely, slightly shy yet focussed with an eye on honing their stage presence in 2012 - slightly concerned that London crowds are harder, they smashed it. If you like big sounds, big guitars, big chorus- oh and hot boys- check them out.
Bluey Robinson- this is our answer to Justin Bieber- huge female following already, ladies older than me are lusting after the 22 year old. He’s smooth, soulful and mixing a throwback feel with a Neyo lean- this guy is cute and very talented. Supporting D’Angelo last night, working with SBTV. Labrinth and Tinie Tempah- I’m sure if you don’t you’ll know who he is very soon.
Off to get ready for day 3..
If you’re coming I’ll see you there if not . WHY?!
