The Hunger Games- new Movie stills released!
Released on the 23rd march this year, The Hunger Games is indefinitely set to be one of the biggest releases of 2012 and the more we read about it, the more excited we are. Based on Suzanne Collins’ novel of the same name, we think we’re seeing a Harry Potter/ Twilight size franchise being born.

Reminiscent of ‘Battle Royale’, Collins who wrote the novel said she’d never actually heard of the film and bore the idea from flicking between footage of the Iraq War and a reality TV show and has also said the novel ‘is not about adolescents. It’s about war, for Adolescents’.

Set in a distant Dystopian future America called Panem which is divided into 13 Districts, each year for the purpose of televised entertainment 2 adolescents from each district, aged between 12 and 18 are chosen to fight to the death in the games, with the only survivor winning.
First published by Scholastic in 2008, the Novel had sold a whopping 80,000 copies by 2010 and so it’s no surprise a release date for the second instalment has already been set for the 22 November 2013.

Wanting to inform young people about the harsh realities of War, Collins feels that sheltering them actually doesn’t help and so finding a ‘role model actress’ for the lead role of Katriss Everdeen was an important aspect of casting for Gary Ross’ film adaptation, who read the book and thought ‘I have to do that movie’. Choosing one of my favourite new comers Jennifer Lawrence who starred in Winter’s Bone (2010) as the lead female Ree, Lawrence plays a similarly feisty survivor in lacking parental guidance in The Hunger Games.

Followed by a further two novels, ‘Catching Fire’ and ‘Mockingjay’ we cannot wait for the Release in March!
